Lost in the trail of Waltham, MA

This morning we went out to jog in the forest. Rishab is always a good sport. Got his bicycle and was riding it as long the trail was even. After some time his bicycle away and started running with me. Together we explored a lot about the nature as always and had some exercise to our body.

When it was time to go back, Rishab tried to lead us and went in to a wrong direction for quite some time. I had to really run hard to reach him and stop him from going further in the wrong direction.

This was Rishab’s first full fledged stage performance in group infront of an audience of 500+ people. He didn’t seem to be concerned much about the audience or the stage and danced as usual.

Scratch-Lego-WeDo kit project demo/Tutorial

Ever since we attended Scratch day at MIT Rishab has been showing lot of interest to learn #Scratch. I got him a WeDo kit. With some help from me , he learnt how to create a car that detects an approaching object and ejects (more or less kicks out) the driver before the crash. All this using lego toys, wedo kit and bit of scratch programming.

Finally we decided to make a small tutorial which is Rishab’s first video tutorial where he explained how to make it.

Making this video was lot of fun and as usual, lot of work to keep Rishab’s attention on the topic. End result was amazing.

Are you a scratch user? please do connect with Rishab on his scratch profile – http://scratch.mit.edu/users/rishabkattimani/

We would love to learn about your projects too.

Scratch day at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Scratch day is celebrated worldwide and may be the largest celebration was here in MIT, where Scratch originated. After the opening ceremony as part of open sessions people of all ages could demonstrate their scratch programs.

Rishab grabbed his slot for demonstrating his programs.

Rishab demonstrated aquarium that he developed last year. Many people visited him and were curious to see what he has done.

This was the first time he saw his scratch programs being seen by others with so much curiosity. At the end of the demonstration he said he would like to create more programs.

He was the youngest to demonstrate there. But he is so tall that most people assume him to be way more older.  But for his age, its still a great progress.

Few minutes later we met Mitchel Resnick who is the designer of Scratch program and he saw Rishab’s animation program.

Although Rishab didn’t have any idea whom he was meeting, but later at home when I shared videos of Mitchel on TED, he was surprised. Mitchel discussed with us about how Rishab got in to Scratch programming so early on and then invited us to try ScratchJr beta version which is not yet available for public. It will be available on IOS towards the end of this year. Android version will be released next year.

When closing ceremony was going on, Rishab kept repeating that he would like to be here. This was the first one for him and definitely there will be many more in future.

Visiting Taza chocolate factory

Rishab visited Taza chocolate factory in Somerville, MA. This factory makes organic, stone ground chocolate in round shapes. Taste was also distinctly textured.

Rishab and Pragnya watched all their factory equipment and learnt the process of making chocolate from cacao to bars.

These chocolates are made in various flavors including some spicy flavors. We liked tasting most of their varieties.

Its a cool breeze.. a spring song by Rishab

Its spring time again I went out with Rishab for an evening walk.

Spring time..

Spring time..

I just asked him to do whatever he wishes to and went on to click some pics of the flowers around. He started singing this song slowly. I asked him to continue singing and recorded it.

He is so sweet when he is just Rishab.

Sledding in Waltham

Rishab endured 2nd winter storm. It was followed by plenty of snow everywhere. This afternoon was the right time to take a quick break for sledding.

Although it was more than 20 degrees below freezing point, everyone was excited to sled. This was Rishab’s first time and we made all first timer mistakes. One time Rishab rolled out of his sled over the snow and it was all over his face. I brought him back to the car and warmed him up.

Kids also had a hot chocolate with marshmallow break.

This place on Trapello Road was of the right size to provide enough thrill for the kids and also being safe for them.

Temperature dropped to -11 degree Fahrenheit next day -Coldest we have ever felt.

Winterstorm and Snow

This week northeast witnessed a winterstorm and snow almost halted the traffic for hours together. Next day morning everything was covered with snow. So were our cars which could not be moved out or used without 30 minutes good cleanup. Rishab is always a helping hand. He plays more and works less. So here was he cleaning our car.

He loves playing with it, but in the best interest of the car, weather and time it is best to let him clear a few spots with easily accessible snow. He loves it. Often ends up dumping some of that snow over himself
